YouTube (Thing 20)

Playing around in YouTube reminds me so much of what I experienced when I first began surfing and learning about the Internet. There's so much to see and you can just go on, and on, and on, watching videos for hours and hours. As far as library related videos are concerned, I saw everything from commercials (some professional and some obviously produced in-house) promoting various libraries or library services to instructional videos. However, my favorite videos I'd have to say, are the ones that not only made me laugh, but also showed that there's another side to librarians and library staff. I was quite impressed with the number of videos out there that promote the library profession. The main thing I think most of videos I watched were trying to accomplish (promotion of the library, awareness of resources available at the library, quick tutorials on how to use a library resource) was done successfully. How effective each video was, I cannot say because the impact each video had may or may not be the impact intended. Right now, I can't think of any other uses of videos to help promote libraries or serve the public that hasn't already been covered. However, this exercise has given me information I can now share with my fellow librarians and library staff.
