Facebook (Thing 8)

I decided to use a pseudonym to create a Facebook account. Sure they ask you to use your real name, but how would they know? Having to confirm via email is not unusual, but is in fact the norm with a lot of web services when you set up for an account or register. One thing I did notice, and was not at all crazy about is when it displayed the city and state where I live and asked if it was something I was familiar with. At this point in the setup wizard, I hadn't included ANY information regarding my geographic location. So, I'm assuming that Facebook is setup to track your location based on your IP address, otherwise how else would it know this?

Prior to engaging in this "Thing", I decided to read a couple of articles on Facebook (how to change your settings, things you can do to make your Facebook page for more privacy and control, problems others have had with their Facebook pages, etc.). It really seems like a lot of fun and extremely useful for people who are looking to network with others. However, since I'm not quite ready for such transparency, I'll just stick with my pseudonym profile, for now.
